GOING GREEN ON HOLD

January 7, 2009: Unfortunately a decision was made recently to place a temporary hold on the collection and sale of used cell phones, handheld PDA's and empty ink cartridges.

Our collection partner has informed us that the current economic conditions have created a depressed market for these products and many cannot even be sold into the recycling industry.

Since our goal is to assist local Chapters in raising funds for community programs, we have to concentrate on fund raising events that will succeed in these goals. We ask the Chapter Coordinators to store any items that have been collected or will be collected in the future.

We are confident that this program will return in the near future but we want it profitable when we put our efforts into "going green". NABVETS leadership would like all members to support the SNOLS program to raise much needed funds for our organization.

www.SNOLS.com is an excellent site for you, your family and friends around the country to shop for ink and toner cartridges. Every cartridges purchased will bring a cash donation to your Chapter. More than 45 billion dollars worth of ink and toner cartridges are sold each year. Visit the website and start passing the address to your friends that what to support NABVETS.

Thank you

Letter on NABVETS Convention

September 15, 2008

Dear NABVETS Member,

Greetings! Well, it’s that time of year again -- time for the long-awaited NABVETS National Conference. I would like to personally invite all paid NABVETS members to join us for what will surely be another fun and value-packed event. This year, the National Conference will be in Seattle (Washington) at the Holiday Inn - SeaTac from October 9-11. We deeply hope that you can join us. The agenda and event activities are enclosed.

These annual conferences are vital to planning, implementing and sustaining our NABVETS organizations locally and nationally. We make every effort to inform, educate and build fellowship between the Chapters so that we may all succeed and ensure the success and growth of NABVETS for years to come.

Please begin to make your travel arrangements today by calling the Holiday Inn – SeaTac at 206-248-1000 and say that you would like to make reservations for the National Association for Black Veterans Convention on October 9, 10, 11, under the NABVETS rate of $104 per night plus tax. The hotel is located opposite the terminals of Seattle-Tacoma (SeaTac) International Airport. Check-in is 3PM and check-out is 12PM.

Convention registration is onsite. The fee for the conference will be $50, which will cover the cost of the National Convention Banquet. We look forward to seeing you there! If you have any questions, please call Harvey Brooks at (253)582-0895.

Sincerely,

BG (Retired) Robert A. Cocroft,
Executive Director

Letter on Recycling

July 17, 2008

Dear Commander,

Please take some time to read this letter:

I would like to discuss the importance of your States’ Local, Regional, and State Command’s participation in the Recycle 4 NABVETS Campaign. This is a National endeavor in which we all need to succeed. It is truly not that difficult to get started. We have experts who will guide you through the entire process and will ensure your success.

By now, our Recycle 4 NABVETS consultants have again sent out an encouraging e-flyer, which talks about each Chapter’s ability to easily earn revenue while winning fantastic cash prizes. There are millions of phones and ink cartridges available for donation. In addition, we have materials on the Recycle 4 NABVETS Website, which will help you send out press releases, initiate relationships with businesses, groups, corporations, and individuals. Again, let me stress the importance of your participation.

We are NABVETS, and together we can make a real difference in the capacity of our organization, and the mission of our members. Other NABVETS Chapters have already begun their recycling programs and will soon be earning money. Chapters should begin to send in recycling photos to the website as well.

We need every member to participate. NABVETS is your organization. You must choose a program coordinator who should go to www.Recycle4NABVETS.com and sign on to participate. You will be helping your individual chapter and NABVETS National survive in the future. This one endeavor could be the single catalyst that brings NABVETS to the national forefront.

Thanks in advance for your increased effort,

BG Robert Cocroft,
Executive Director
